Facsimile reproduction of the 1611 King James Bible, FIRST EDITION, bound in smooth brown calfskin with raised bands, exquisite tooling on the spine and opening cover, measures approximately 11 inches tall by 8.75 inches wide by 3.5 inches thick, and weighs about 10 pounds. Originally printed by Robert Barker, printer to the King's Most Excellent Majesty, in London.
At the Hampton Court Conference, in January 1604, the Puritan John Reynolds "moved his Majesty, that there might be a new translation of the Bible, because those which were allowed in the reign of Henry VIII and Edward VI, were corrupt and not answerable to the truth of the Original."
The renowned 1611 translation of the Bible was ordered by King James I and begun in 1605 at Hampton Court Palace. The translation was made by six committees of 45 scholars, chosen by June 30, 1604, meeting at Westminster, Oxford, and Cambridge with Archbishop Richard Bancroft serving as the overseer for the undertaking. They met to check each others’ work and to read the texts out loud, as they would be when in use from the pulpit. Preliminary translation work took three years. The review and finishing touches took another three years. The translation produced a majestic reading filled with the memorable music of its rhythm unmatched in literature and later translations of the Bible that pale in comparison. In 1610 the manuscript was finally handed over to the king's printer Robert Barker.
Produced by Bible Museum. Reproduction Bibles is a Value Added Reseller in the United States providing the appropriate, and much needed, upgrade with an appropriate smooth soft brown calfskin period binding with raised bands and incredible hand tooling. This is the way a real Bible should be done. It is hand crafted.
There is nothing more beautiful than a BIG beautiful Bible that has been hand crafted with love, skill, and great care. This King James Bible is BEAUTIFUL. It is a timeless classic showcasing the majesty of the Word from the early Seventeenth Century. Crisp and sharp details. Readable and engaging. Memorable. Cutting to the heart. Each page was computer-scanned in high resolution from the original, and printed on heavy cream paper. The real leather period binding with raised bands finishes this master piece. This treasure is a keeper, and of the type that is listed in a will.
The typeface of the original King James Bible builds on the earlier Authorized Versions for the Church of England. We believe that the punch cutter for the blackletter typeface was Dutch. A similar typeface was used in the Great Bible of Henry VIII, the Bishop's Bible under Queen Elizabeth, and the King James Bible. The main text is gothic black letter. The chapter summaries are set in Roman type. Approximately 9,000 cross references in the margins are set in Roman type as well as italics. Words that do not appear in the original Hebrew and Greek in the main text are in Roman type.
Contains the monumental Front Piece produced by Cornelis Boel, the full prefatory content: The Dedication to King James, the translator's To The Reader Preface, the Calendar, the Holy Land Map, John Speed and Hugh Broughton's numerous Genealogy charts, and of course the entire Old Testament, Inter-Testamental Books (as specifically mandated by King James), and New Testament. This bible is exactly as it was first published in 1611. It's the real thing as authorized by King James and appointed to be read in the churches.
If you are looking for the real thing, go back to the original, and invest in a real bible in a real period binding in genuine leather.
