. From Concept to Reality .
When I first discovered the world of manuscript bibles, I quickly learned that that there were no reproductions of Bibles in English or Spanish or any other modern language. What existed were limited editions of facsimiles licensed by museums and libraries. Some were poorly illuminated and others were not. And, they all had the same thing in common. They were in Latin - not that there is anything wrong with that.
We established Hebert Publishers, a Limited Liability Company, for the express purpose of researching, developing, and making available in English (and one day also in Spanish) Reproduction Bibles from the past.
Multiple concurrent projects of such a large magnitude take an enormous amount of time, research, talent, and capital to develop and complete. In order to achieve our vision of producing the best possible Reproduction Bibles, we partnered with the best of kind, best of breed talent available.

. Meet the Team .
Neil Bromley of Devon, England works with us in producing a Reproduction Bible modeled on the pre-Gothic, Romanesque Bibles from before 1200. Neil is a master graphic artist academically trained in all of the old methods of manuscript making, illumination, and heraldry. The Romanesque Bibles were large, majestic, ornamental, and richly illuminated in gold. The script was readable and is the legacy of the father of Europe, Charlemagne - Christendom's King David of the medieval period . Historiated letters provided for compelling openings for each book of the Bible. We have modeled our four volume Romanesque Bible in English on the Winchester Bible, which was done circa 1170. The art is Anglo-Norman and reflects a mesmerizing era from Western history. And, this is a Crusader Era period Bible from the period of Richard the Lionhearted - between the Second and Third Crusades. You can experience the impact from the Romanesque period by helping us to underwrite our efforts by ordering a page from the opening to the book of Exodus, which is beautifully and skillfully illuminated in 23.5 k gold leaf.

Michel Ryde of Dikkebus, Belgium has worked with us in the photography of manuscript Bibles at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. It was with relish that we handled and photographed both volumes of the great Chartraine Bible that has not yet been digitized. This superbly executed Romanesque period Bible is over 800 years old and was used in the cathedral of Chartres during an era when it took 100 years to design and build a house of worship for the community and surrounding regions.

Rosemary Buczek of Fountainville, Pennsylvania works with us in 23.5 karat raised gold and flat gold leafing to illuminate our work. Rosemary was academically trained in the fine arts and is a master of the old world craft. She does the expert 23.5 karat gold and platinum leaf illumination for our Apocalypse of Jesus Christ. Rosemary finishes the illuminations by hand burnishing them to a dazzling brilliance identical to the originals.

Mabel Ramirez of North Bethesda, Maryland works with us in producing the Gutenberg Bible in English. All of the book opening, display, and header letters were carefully done by hand. Each hand done display letter was modeled on the originals found in the Gutenberg Bible held by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and other museums and libraries. The reds and blues and puzzle letters she has created bring to vivid life the Bible as envisioned by Johannes Gutenberg.

John Hebert of Silver Spring, Maryland worked with us in acquisitions and digital imaging. His behind the scenes efforts enabled us to move ahead a little more quickly from time to time. After the first work for personal use was produced, the Book of Genesis modeled on the wood cut illustrated Kölner Bible, I was urged to produce future projects in full color. His generosity over many months enabled an idea, a dream, to come into reality with the acquisition of a commercial printer.

Peter Hebert of North Bethesda, Maryland envisioned Reproduction Bibles to fill a void in the marketplace for family, ceremonial, and collectible Bibles. The initial idea to produce Reproduction Bibles took place in the rare book room of the Library of Congress in the early 1990s after studying a richly illuminated medieval psalter. Over time as manuscripts and early printed Bibles held by museums and libraries were digitized and put online, the initial idea grew and eventually became a company designed to serve this and future generations that recognize the Bible as a treasure of Western culture. Peter is responsible for research, prototype development, project management, and more.
