. From Research to Development .
Before we produce a Reproduction Bible, we thoroughly research the period, identify the best of kind and best of genre, develop models and go through several test prints in order to ensure that what we offer is indeed the best of the period to produce.
Much of our work is enabled by digitization projects, such as the Bodleian - Vatican Project. Without efforts like these, the treasures of the Western world would be concealed away from public view and careful study.

Research starts with securing high resolution PDFs and microfilm of entire manuscripts and early printed Bibles. Sometimes our research is focused on accessing institutional subscriptions to digitized manuscripts in high resolution that are kept from public viewing. Then it’s off to the rare book collections of libraries and museums, which then continues with arcane academic reference books on paleography, illumination, and the historical backdrop. |
To fine tune our understanding, we travel the world to see the originals. At the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris, we studied and photographed both volumes of the great Bible of the cathedral at Chartres. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, we studied and photographed Volume III of the Winchester Bible. At the Winchester Cathedral in Winchester, England, we studied and photographed Volume II of the Winchester Bible.
At the Lambeth Palace Library in London, we viewed and studied every page of the Lambeth Bible and the Lambeth Apocalypse on microfilm.
Pages are then planned and layed out, and bifolios are printed to test for fidelity to the originals in terms of many subtle details like the text block to page size ratio as well as color. We partner with experienced font designers, talented graphic artists, and highly skilled illuminators in order to produce a Reproduction Bible to showcase the best from the past for the perennial truths contained in the Scriptures to speak to us with persuasive power. The end result is a Bible intended to be used and treasured, a collector’s piece, an investment.
