The aesthetics of this Bible are the result of the policy set by Saint Bernard for the Abbey at Clairvaux. There is no gold leafing. Instead, there is rich colored chapter opening letters, and monochrome book opening letters. Because this Bible predate 1205 when Stephen Langton restructured the chaptering of the Bible, this Bible follows the older convention with many more chapters per book.
Contains Jerome's prologues, chapter outlines before each book, and the five books of Moses, which are Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy.
Bernard of Clairvaux was a preacher for the Second Crusade and an advocate for the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem.
The abbreviation conventions of Latin words are in this medieval period Bible.
Pages are 8 1/2" by 11" in size, printed on white vellum paper by Mohawk, and beautifully bound in a black calf skin leather binding with raised bands. The result is an authentic medieval Bible in FACSIMILE that includes bleed throughs exactly like the original.
